V-dog crunchy nuggets new recipe is now soya free and contains whole wheat, whole corn, dried peas, sweet potato, whole linseed and alfalfa. It is affordable and your dog will receive all its amino acids from this food as there is a good mix of legumes and corn.
There are no extra high quality ‘superfoods’ and the packaging is plastic so not as sustainable as the other newer brands, but it is a popular source of feeding your dog a plant-based diet and is not too pricey. It would not suit dogs with any form of food intolerance or food allergies however as it does contain high levels of wheat and corn (2 of the 10 top allergens in dogs).
V-Dog has been around since 1980 (it was originally called Happidog) and is a very popular brand. In 2022 they changed their recipe as they did used to have a very concerning Vit D3 source using Calcitriol Glycoside but we are so pleased that they changed this. It does still seem to be mentioned in the V-Dog flakes, but not in the new recipe soya-free dry biscuits.
