Benevo dry food is made of doughnut shaped biscuits and are made from a blend of protein rich soya, corn and rice, with brewer’s yeast for added taste. They have kept with the trends and have added in the required amounts of taurine and l-carnitine, except in the Benevo Organic Wheat Free that contains no added taurine and l-carnitine. It also has no addition of the amino acid methionine to acidify your dog’s urine and prevent bladder and urinary tract complications. They mention the addition of ergocalciferol (Vit D2), but no addition of plant-based cholecalciferol (Vit D3) as found in the superior more expensive brands such as Solo-Vegetal.
The main ingredient of Benevo is soya so it is a diet that is not good for any itchy or food intolerant dogs out there as soya follows behind meat protein, dairy and wheat as being one of the top allergens in dogs. The soya in Benevo seems to cause issues in dogs that are prone to stomach upsets so it can cause gas (smelly!) and diarrhoea.
Saying that, we do recommend this food and their company as they are local and reasonably priced. We do however advise that you complement feeding Benevo with adding in a homemade diet using a supplement with the addition of taurine, methionine and plant-based Vit D3 (lacking in Benevo), to ensure that your dog receives ALL the nutrients they need on a plant-based diet. We offer a Green Paws Challenge to access the homemade recipes and supplement for your dog.

We are fully supportive of their treat packaging as shown below!
Their treat bag of Pawtato Ocean Treats is made from sweet potato supplemented with sustainably farmed seaweed, all in a biodegradable bag. With a percentage of the proceeds of each pack going towards marine conservation projects, not only are these treats ocean friendly, but each purchase goes towards making a positive difference to our seas.
This inspiration came from Benevo employees doing a beach clean up along the Essex Coast and they were horrified by the amount of rubbish and plastic that they picked up in such a short space of time – read more here.
We do love their Benevo cake mix to treat your vegan dog on its birthday!!
The cake is made of Organic Brown Rice, Organic Carob Powder (4%), Baking Powder, Organic Cinnamon Powder (1%), Xanthan Gum, and the frosting is made of Organic Corn Flour, Organic Coconut Flour (1%), Xanthan Gum – all fine to treat your dog on a special occasion!
Reviews from dog owners feeding Benevo:
“I’ve been buying this product for a while now for my two rescue Collies, 8 year old girl and 2.5 year old boy. Both of them really like the dry food, which they get in addition to freshly cooked meals. “
“After years of dreading the coming of spring because my girl would turn into a mass of uncontrollable chewing, licking and scratching to the point of bleeding and hair loss, she is finally able to enjoy the warmer weather! Within days of switching foods the allergy symptoms subsided and her coat and skin began looking and feeling much better. I’ve tried everything before this to calm her symptoms. The bonus is she prefers this to her old food, eats less and has more energy. “
“The reason I switched from a meat based diet was that I had become vegan myself and while looking for a more ethical dog food I came across Benevo. After much research into dog nutrition and whether dogs can thrive on a meatless diet, I made the change a few years ago and my dogs love it.
My younger one was getting itchy skin and I had read that many people had found an improvement in their dogs skin after starting Benevo. I also found this to be true, he is off his medication and hasn’t been back to the vets since!
I have 2 terriers, one is now 5 and one is 16 and still going strong.
I always have a bowl of biscuits down and they graze on it throughout the day. When I first started them on Beneovo I mixed it in with their normal food (which was a premium brand prescription diet) but they picked all the Benevo out and left the old biscuits behind! You can’t get a better doggy endorsement than that! “
“I have two adult Jack Russells on the organic benevo kibble and tinned food. They really love it and it’s now the only thing that seems to keep their tummies happy and their poops regular!”
“Our Nala is 6 month’s now and has been on Benevo puppy food and thriving on it, highly recommended. Our Ziva our Border Collie is 5 and on the Benevo adult food also. Not the cheapest in the market but worth every penny”
“It’s just me but my jack Russell Cross wouldn’t touch the benevo. He has Ami kibble now which he’s been on for four years”
“Five stars! My dogs are very happy and healthy on this – one whippet, one Norwegian Elk Hound X – and they’ve been enjoying it for two or three years now. We vary it by serving it with gravy, or some moist dog food, or left over vegetables or porridge on top and they love that so much that they refuse to start on the dry meal until they get their something special to top it off. “
“My two aren’t pups (10 and 6) but Benevo suits them better than any other kibble. They love it and great poops”
“Massive poops lol, make sure plenty poo bags, my GSD I could seriously hire a JCB to pick up after her!”
“Mine’s been on Benevo since I got him at about 12 weeks, first puppy and now adult. (He’s now almost 2) He hasn’t had any issues with it and vet says he’s in good shape. I have always given him a mix of the dry and the Wet tins Duo and the Trays.”
