Sumptuous Sesame Oil

Sumptuous Sesame Oil vegan dog food

Why do we recommend using sesame oil in our dog food recipe?

Sesame oil is recommended in our nutrient rich icing in our homemade recipes, as it offers the extra benefit of not only being full of Omega-6 fatty acids that are important for heart and skin health; sesame oil is also rich in anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

One of the other main reasons we like sesame oil in our recipe compared to olive oil (that is not that beneficial to dogs), is that it leaves a delicious and familiar smell to the food (and to us) – it really does smell delicious!

Why is tahini paste recommended?

tahini paste full of calcium for a vegan dog's dietSesame seeds are known to be high in calcium but the seeds are very indigestible (as you would notice if you give your dog sesame seeds in a dish and then have to clear up their speckled deposits the next day on the grass!).

To get the calcium benefit from sesame, it is better to use tahini paste (unsweetened so fairly bitter) which is crushed sesame seeds as we advise in our homemade recipes. It is also rich in protein and although we find it bitter, dogs love the addition of tahini paste to their food as they smell the nutrients in it.

Even the fussiest dogs love tahini…but use it and sesame oil with caution in any dogs who have suffered from any form of pancreatitis in the past as it is high in fat.
