Thought you’d like this photo of Starla’s reaction to the new food. Well….she wouldn’t even wait for it to hit the bowl as I scooped it out the tin, she was licking it out the can as soon as I opened it and then off the spoon. Really didn’t give me a chance to dish it in the bowl. I’ve actually never seen her react to food like this before.
She’s normally so reserved – she REALLY loves this one!

“Just to say that, as usual, my order from you came very quickly and tonight I was able to feed the boys their tasty Give A Dog A Bean. They loved it!
Pepe generally eats most of his food but usually leaves some in the bowl. Tonight, he not only finished his own, but kept going back to both his and George’s bowls to see if there was more! George had finished his in seconds too!
So, a couple of very happy boys – and a happy dad too, because of the high quality ingredients etc in the food. Well done!”

Pepe and George's Dad Worthing

“For a dog who has only ever tasted meat-based food, I am amazed at how much Billy loves this new food…and you can actually see all the ingredients in there so I know that it’s good for him. He’ll be staying on Give a dog a Bean from now on!”

WHY HAVE YOU USED BEAN PROTEIN?

Are beans safe ingredients for pet food? YES!

Most foods in their raw state can be harmful to pets. Examples of these are eggs, fish, chicken and potatoes. But when they’re prepared and cooked properly using the right heat level to fully reduce lectin levels, beans provide our pets with immense nutrients.

Beans are only toxic when eaten raw or uncooked. There’s no reason to worry about its consumption if they have undergone proper processing and cooking in the canning process. This makes dehulled beans not just a safe ingredient for pet food but a highly effective one in boosting their energy and promoting skin and coat health with the correct levels of protein and fibre.

We only include ingredients proven safe and in appropriate amounts to ensure efficacy. That’s why our entire beans inclusion is less than 11% – far lower than what studies recommend to secure palatability and digestibility which is no more than 20% as shown in these published studies. Every one of our Give A Dog A Bean tins isn’t just safe but also very effective in promoting your dogs’ overall health.

Please contact us if you have any further queries as we offer transparency and honesty with all our products and welcome feedback both good and bad.

WHY HAVE YOU NOT USED PEA PROTEIN OR YEAST?

We are so proud to have produced the very first vegan dog food in the world to contain no yeast and no pea protein as one of its ingredients. We have chosen to omit pea protein as we have had so many dogs show intolerances to peas of any kind so Give A Dog A Bean is the ONLY plant-based food that they will be able to eat.

The same goes for yeast intolerances. In our experience; dogs that suffer from yeast infections on their skin and in their ears, tend to have a yeast intolerance in their diet, and this is one of the only foods in the UK that has no yeast or animal proteins in it for these sensitive dogs.

CAN MY ELDERLY DOG BENEFIT FROM GIVE A DOG A BEAN?

Yes, our tinned food is highly nutritious for elderly pets as it is packed full of healthy antioxidants to boost their energy through natural means by enhancing their gut bacteria. Elderly pets tend to produce a more alkaline digestive tract environment, so our food is ideal as we have the important addition of enough Methionine to help acidify the digestive and urinary tract of your elderly pet.

The food is also soft and easy to eat for pets suffering from tooth extractions or painful gums. The ideal for any dogs with arthritis, is to add a daily dose of Gold Dust Joint Supplement into their Give A Dog A Bean tinned food to supply all the joint nutrients needed naturally and without harming any sealife or animals.

WON'T THE BEANS MAKE MY DOG VERY GASSY?

This does seem to be one of the top concerns of owners who have not fed their dogs a plant-based diet before – that their dog will end up really windy! Yes, there is an increase in fibre in the food and to avoid any issues with flatulence, we always advise transitioning your dog over a period of 2 – 3 weeks to allow the gut bacteria to get used to the increase in natural fibres and allow all those good gut bacteria to divide and grow with the increase in their ‘food’ which will immediately enhance the health of your dog!
Feed small amounts at first as Give A Dog A Bean is very palatable and as dogs don’t chew properly but just shovel it in and swallow, use slow feeder bowls for the hungrier greedier dogs to avoid them overloading their stomach in one sitting.

This article explains very scientifically that beans should not result in flatulence in your dog.

HEALTH BENEFITS

As well as making up a complete diet, Give A Dog A Bean’s ingredients also have a number of health benefits for the body, in particular the skin, heart and gut:

  • Bean and Quinoa protein is chosen as a valuable protein source as both have an optimal amino acid profile for your dog.
  • Added Hemp Seeds and Algae provides the essential Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. They lead to a soft and healthy coat and fully support a healthy skin barrier for all dogs with sensitive skins.
  • Blueberries are chosen for their antioxidant properties. They are characterised by a high fibre content, which has a beneficial effect on digestion. Minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium are abundant in blueberries as well as high levels of Vitamins B & E.
  • Papaya is another superfood that is added as it contains one of the highest levels of natural digestive enzymes of all the fruit.
  • Sweet Potato is rich in nutrients and fibre and contains large amounts of Vitamins A, C and E, as well as essential fibre. Due to a low sodium content, sweet potato has a diuretic effect, so that detoxification processes are stimulated in the body and harmful waste products are more easily removed.
  • The addition of Carrots, Kale, Green Beans, Pumpkin Seeds and Psyllium Husks ensures that your dog gets their ‘5 a day’ to naturally feed their gut microbiome which in turn will look after your dog’s health naturally.
  • Give a Dog A Bean is a healthy, nutritionally complete, very tasty plant-based food for your dog.
