Why we are Keen on Quinoa

We particularly like quinoa for use in plant-based dog food, as it is the one plant source that provides all ten essential amino acids! It is exceptionally high in the amino acid lysine, which is usually lacking in plants. It’s also rich in methionine and histidine, making it an excellent plant-based protein source to feed your dog.

Quinoa technically isn’t a grain but is rather a seed which means that it is ideal for use in dogs with any form of wheat intolerance or allergies.

It is a good source of several minerals, including manganese, phosphorus, copper, folate, iron, magnesium, and zinc as well as being high in fibre to nourish your dog’s gut microbiome – a true superfood.

It is easy to cook (just rinse the grains first to remove any bitterness) and we love quinoa so much, that we use it in most of our homemade recipes (as shown below).
