It was less than a year ago that vegan dog food was in the media for a very different reason as it was portrayed as almost being ‘illegal’ as shown in this post.
Yet again, we have proof that we are now entering a world of positive change for plant-based diets in our pets, as the studies done by our wonderful Prof Andrew Knight have been highlighted by New Scientist in the article shown below –
What is so exciting about this article, is that they have fully embraced all of Prof Knight’s latest studies and highlighted all the findings in our dogs with feeding a nutritionally balanced plant-based diet. The article mentions how balanced vegan dog food diets can have these effects on our dogs –
- Live longer
- Have lower incidences of gastric disorders
- Better body conditions as less cases of obesity
- Overall better health
- As palatable as meat-based diets
- Less veterinary visits
- Lack of bacteria in or on the food
- More effort made to ensure vegan dog food diets are nutritionally sound
Everything mentioned is just so positive and with published studies by both Prof Knight (UK) and Dr Sarah Dodd (Canada and US) backing these claims; we are thrilled to have such a well respected publication highlighting this and hopefully converting more and more dogs to plant-based!
What about cats?
All I can say, is ‘watch this space’. The developments in plant-based dogs are happening rapidly with so many companies producing balanced vegan dog foods, and although we are not there yet with cats, the article touched on something just SO exciting……the development of cultured meat made from mouse!!
How exciting is that? It means that cats receive a natural and nutritionally sound diet as it is what they would choose to normally eat, and the best thing is…..not a single mouse would have been harmed at all – wonderful!!
