What a privilege to speak to vet students at Nottingham vet School this week and teach them all about a topic that they knew nothing about – kind, sustainable plant-based pet food.
I do confess to being very anxious about this talk. The other talks that I have given have been to a very receptive audience, and when the students began entering the large lecture room in groups and sat at the back and opened up their laptops; I had my suspicions that they may just log into the latest series of Love Island instead of listening to what I had to say!!
As always, I gave it everything and told them as many relatable stories as I could. When I mentioned cases and the remarkable changes that I have seen, that is when I noticed they really sat up and listened so a huge thank you for sharing in your success stories with me so that I had so much to tell them!
I could tell that so many of them were sadly already influenced by the large corporate companies who has their sponsorship everywhere at the university on large screens in between the latest pop video!! This really worried me that they could be influenced even before they had stepped into a working environment to immediately choose what will make the most money for a practice, and not necessarily be the healthiest for pets.
The questions they asked at the end were my reward! They had absorbed what I had said and they wanted to know more and that gave me the most hope – especially those who stayed to ask even more as I packed my bags to leave – those were the ones I knew were converted and I left with a smile:)
See parts of what I covered below in the talk and just so lovely to receive this feedback from the organiser:
Good Afternoon Arielle,
Just wanted to thank you again for delivering such an interesting talk yesterday. We have had such good feedback, and everyone found it very enjoyable. Looking forward to learning more about sustainable pet food in the future and best of luck with all you are doing.
