A ‘Groundbreaking’ Study Of Identical Twins Finds Benefits Of Plant-Based Diet For Heart Health – See full article here that shows that the twins on vegan diets lost weight and had reduced cholesterol and insulin.

This is in humans and is groundbreaking as studying identical twins means the researchers could control for genetic differences and limit environmental factors that could make it harder to compare different diets.

Twins

The twins had the same upbringings and reported that they lived similar lifestyles.

We are seeing exactly the same in dogs born from the same litter when raised on a plant-based diet compared to the other raised on a meat-based diet as shown with Moss the Collie brought up on a 100% plant-based diet compared to his littermate twin brother Alfie!

“Here is a picture of Moss. He’s a 20 month old shorthaired Border Collie. He came from a sheep farm near Bala in North Wales along with his brother Alfie. Moss has been plant-based since we got him at 8 weeks.

He’s super healthy and very energetic. Interestingly, we are close friends with his brother’s owners, so have been able to keep a constant comparison with their dog – a meat-eater. His brother gets fed a “ high quality” mix of dry and wet meat food that is supplied by subscription.

There is absolutely no difference between them, in their size, weight, energy, or cheerfulness. Only difference is Moss shows no interest in his brother’s food, whereas his brother is very keen to get Moss’ food (Solo Vegetal!)

Vegan Collie Moss

“Moss is the happiest nicest natured dog you could wish for.

He and his brother Alfie were together yesterday and it was noted that although no difference could be seen in them, Moss is better behaved and has a calming effect on his brother.

We took him to the vets this week to get him neutered, as had been advised by our usual vet. But we didn’t see the usual vet but a lovely french vet who asked us why. We said we didn’t want to breed with him and had been told it was healthier. She said otherwise and as he has a gentle nature there was no reason to. So reprieve for Moss:)

What she did say was, that he was in excellent condition a great weight and we were obviously managing his diet very well. My husband and I gave each other a sideways look, but neither of us plucked up the courage to say he was vegan! Maybe when he’s older, and he has more healthy years under his belt we will. We’re such cowards.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have a vegan dog, as we had decided after our last dog that as vegans we could only have a dog companion if he could be a healthy vegan.

Thank you again Arielle”

**LATEST UPDATE DECEMBER 2023**

Moss’ owner here, thought I would let you know that Moss’ brother Alfie now eats Solo Vegetal, and is doing very well on it. He suffered with stomach issues, his owners changed his diet and are very pleased with the result, both dogs are a delight, and Alfie, Moss’ brother is doing extremely well being trained to herd sheep!
