I have been holding monthly informative webinars for all the people really wanting to learn as much as they can who sign up to our Plant-Based Dog Nutrition Course.
When I invited the UK’s top veterinary oncologist to talk this week, Prof Clare Knottenbelt, I received such an inspiring reply from one of the attendees of the live webinar.
Hi Arielle,
I was blown away by the implications of Prof Clare’s webinar with you last night. This is what I picked up from the discussion that completely shocked and amazed me….
- Cats are land animals so would not naturally eat fish. Fish has very high levels of arsenic in it concentrated in the livers of the fish. Chronic renal failure is very common in cats which is caused by high arsenic levels.
- 1 in 3 dogs get cancer with the main type of cancer seen being mast cell tumours.
- Bio accumulation of toxins and heavy metals causes cancer – this means animals who eat animals – so chickens fed fishmeal for example would have much higher levels of these toxins and heavy metals and the biggest accummulation is in the liver/kidneys of animals used in pet foods.
- Inflammation causes cancer cells to divide and create mistakes – anal gland issues and skin irritation from inappropriate diets as well as obesity are primary causes of cancer.
- Apoquel used to treat dogs with an itchy skin can promote cancer growth.
I would add that my 3 Golden Retrievers have been on vegan diets for 5 years now. I used to breed and keep up to 6 dogs at home. Mast cell tumours were a common occurrence – something I have never had with my own dogs (my oldest is 11) but I get calls from puppy owners of my breeding saying that they still get mast cell tumours or other cancers!
In 1970’s the common lifespan of a Golden Retriever was 16-17 years which has been reduced to 10 due to the current pet foods being sold!
YES – we SO agree. The best diet to prevent obesity and inflammation due to intolerances, as well as prevent any concerns with the bio accumulation of toxins and heavy metals is a pure natural plant-based dog food diet!!
Please note that all webinars are recorded and stored in the Plant-Based Dog Nutrition Course for anyone who has bought the course to watch whenever they want. Prof Clare’s interview is stored in the bonus section on cancer at the end of the course and is well worth watching!
