What an inspiring story about 3 very fortunate rescues Daddy and Fanta who are both 11 year old Ibizan Hounds and pretty little Kissy who is 10 and also a rescue from Spain (a Podenco).
Here is their story as told by their Mum whose choices transformed the life of beautiful boy Daddy with his pure white coat and sensitive pink skin.
Daddy started breaking out into itchy sores which started in January 2022. Thinking I was doing the right thing I fed them a complete raw food for a number of years and when Daddy’s skin issues started I tried him on a unique animal protein, venison for 3 months. The change of food though didn’t help and we had a year of constant sores, bathing them in Hibiscrub or when they got bad a course of antibiotics. He was prescribed Apoquel which is rather expensive, it helped with the itching but didn’t stop the sores breaking out.
Then in January this year I read how a vegan diet can help dogs with skin issues so I phased them all to Solo Vegetal kibble mixed with vegan wet food …. within 2 weeks I started reducing Daddy’s medication and after 6 weeks took him off his daily medication and he hasn’t had a sore since!
Another benefit is Kissy used to have her anal glands emptied by the vet every 6 weeks and she’s not needed this since the change to a vegan diet!
Plus… all of their coats are noticeably softer and for their age they have lots of energy, maintain a healthy weight (which the vet’s commented on) and they love their food.
Wow huge well done to these 3 beautiful rescue’s Mum for doing all her research and finding them a diet that is just perfect for their sensitive skins. Thank you for sharing your story and sending so many photos of 3 happy handsome dogs 🙂
