Amazing to see how far we have come with vegan dog food in just 10 months!! As all the latest studies point to a nutritionally sound vegan diet being one of the healthiest for your dogs, so all the tabloids have picked up on it….and we couldn’t be more excited!
Just 10 months ago, in October 2021, the Daily Mirror paper started quite a stir amongst pet owners as they published an article that resulted in fear amongst vegan dog owners. The facts they expressed were extreme and incorrect. They even used an image of a Jack Russell licking its lips that I had on my homepage of Just be Kind at the time (I quickly took the photo of the Jack Russell down!), but I stayed optimistic as I knew it wasn’t correct!
What a turnaround in just 10 months, as on the 12th August, the very same tabloid published Prof Knight’s invaluable findings about vegan dog food being healthier for our pets than meat-based dog food – this gives us all such hope!!
That is not the only complete change in 10 months….the veterinary profession has had to change their views too which is even more exciting! The Vet Times published Prof Knight’s important findings on the front page of the July 2022 issue of the Vet Times magazine, with such an encouraging response from the BVA (British Veterinary Association), that they are now having to change their stance on vegan dog food diets and reconsider their importance regarding this overwhelming evidence.
The BVA is also realising that apart from the health aspect; the sustainability issues surrounding the reduction of meat use in pet food at such a crucial time (when we have experienced record-breaking temperatures in the UK), just cannot be ignored.
