Vegetology Marine Algae is a source of Omega 3 which contains a highly concentrated form of DHA and EPA Omega 3s *ESSENTIAL FOR YOUR DOG'S BRAIN, SKIN, JOINT AND HEART HEALTH*

Other sources of Omega 3 for your dog include ALA fatty acid from flaxseed. Due to the very low conversion rate of ALA to the important fatty acids DHA and EPA in dogs, you would need to feed your dog a month's supply of flaxseed (ALA) to obtain the equivalent bio-available Omega 3 as you would obtain from a single capsule of Vegetology Algae oil or 1/2 tsp!

Where does the Omega 3 come from?

Fish don’t naturally produce Omega 3 DHA & EPA in their livers, they get it from their diet of algae. The big fish (cod) eat the little fish… who eat the Omega 3 rich algae in the ocean.

Scientists decided to cut out the middleman… or middle fish in this case! The ocean bed is a complex ecosystem and small fish rely on this algae and seaweed to survive, so disturbing this ecosystem to obtain Omega 3 rich algae could be a damaging thing.

Scientists decided to grow this algae which is cultivated in conditions just like the seawater in bioreactors on land without the pollutants and heavy metals that unfortunately affect many of our seas and oceans now. The end result is a high quality, plant-based source of pure Omega 3 DHA and EPA that the whole family can take (we do as a family:)

Why is carageenan used in the Omega 3 Algae oil capsules?

Carrageenan is a natural gum material that is extracted from Kelp (a type of seaweed). A tiny amount of highly pure carrageenan to help form the Omega 3 capsule is used. It wrongly gets bad press because of internet reports that are actually only relevant to Polygeenan (a degraded version not used in food). Vegetology wouldn't use any ingredient without being completely satisfied with its safety for humans and our pets. The capsule structure they use offers a stable alternative to the likes of gelatin.
