As owners we just assume that what a dog is familiar with, is what they like. This is partially true and as most dogs have only ever been fed dog food that is 99% meat-based, they have never even been offered or tried an alternative. Most owners will immediately say that their dog does not touch veg and does not like carrots if questioned.

The same goes for humans who turn vegan after years of eating foods that they really liked. An assumption is made that suddenly their diets will become bland and boring and filled with lettuce leaves……….but we know that this is not true at all!

Our homemade recipes contain ingredients that are both familiar to dogs and very tasty such as brown rice or couscous mixed with sesame oil and familiar herbs such as origanum, basil and rosemary.

If you try even our very tasty Green Crunch biscuits on your dog and they still do not like the food, do not despair. The dry biscuits can be mixed with some warm water and you can add tahini paste and nutritional yeast to the food. Most dogs find these additions irresistible  – especially the tahini paste!

We use it as an ingredient in our Umameo high nutrient treats. Remember that dogs can smell every amino acid and nutrient in the food and the more nutritious it is, the more likely they are to be drawn to it.
